Yes. You can absolutely have a facelift after having Sculptra®.

At Bougie Aesthetics®, we intentionally place Sculptra® into the deep fat compartments of the face, which are the areas that naturally lose volume as we age. Because of this deep placement, a surgeon performing a facelift typically will not see or encounter the Sculptra® during surgery.

This is done on purpose. We understand that many patients may choose to have a facelift at some point in the future, and deep placement allows Sculptra® to support the face without interfering with surgical planes. In fact, when Sculptra® is placed in the deep fat pads, it does not add complexity to a facelift procedure. It actually helps.

When Sculptra® is placed more superficially, such as in the subdermal or deep dermal plane, it can be visible to a surgeon and may require additional work during tissue dissection. Even in those cases, it does not mean a facelift cannot be performed. An experienced plastic surgeon can still safely proceed; it simply requires more careful dissection.

Yes. Sculptra® pairs very well with other aesthetic treatments and is often combined as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Because Sculptra® stimulates collagen production, it works especially well alongside other collagen-stimulating treatments such as RF microneedling or SkinPen® microneedling to enhance overall skin quality and firmness.

Neuromodulators like Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® can also be performed the same day as Sculptra®. It’s common for patients to receive Sculptra® and neuromodulators during one visit, then return a few weeks later for microneedling treatments to create a more synergistic, layered result.

Your provider will recommend the best timing and combination of treatments based on your goals and skin needs.

Mild swelling is common after Sculptra® treatment and typically resolves within a few days. Some patients may also experience light bruising at injection sites, depending on individual sensitivity and the areas treated.

In the first 24 hours, brief use of ice can help reduce swelling and decrease bruising. We recommend using ice 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off for the first three hours following your treatment.

If bruising does occur, Bougie Aesthetics® offers a quick Lutronic Ultra Laser Bruise Treatment, which can help speed resolution. This treatment takes less than five minutes and is available for $50.

Your provider will review post-treatment care instructions to help minimize swelling and bruising and support a smooth recovery.

Over the years, massage recommendations after Sculptra® have evolved. Earlier guidelines encouraged frequent massage, while more recent guidance suggests that massage may not be necessary in all cases.

At Bougie Aesthetics®, we have been performing Sculptra® treatments for many years and have seen excellent outcomes in patients who massage and in patients who do not. In our experience, results have remained consistent regardless of massage habits.

If massage makes you feel more comfortable, you are welcome to gently massage the treated areas. A simple approach is to massage for a couple of minutes during your normal skincare routine, such as once in the morning and once in the evening after washing your face. Some patients prefer to follow the traditional five minutes, five times a day, for five days approach, which is also acceptable.

Ultimately, there is flexibility with massage after Sculptra®. Whether you choose to massage or not, your provider will guide you based on your treatment and comfort level.

It is normal to feel temporary firmness or small bumps in the treated areas shortly after Sculptra® treatment. This is related to the product itself and the skin’s normal healing response.

Sculptra® is mixed with sterile water before injection. As the body gradually absorbs that fluid, the treated areas may feel firm or slightly uneven at first. This typically improves over the following days to weeks as the product settles and collagen stimulation begins.

If gentle massage is recommended, applying a warm compress first can be helpful. Heat allows the tissue to relax, which may make massage more comfortable and effective. In most cases, this firmness is temporary, not visible to others, and resolves on its own.

If you ever have concerns or notice changes that feel unusual, your provider is always available to evaluate and guide you.

To help minimize bruising and swelling, there are a few things to be mindful of both before and after your Sculptra® treatment.

Before treatment, you may be advised to avoid certain supplements and medications that can increase bruising. This includes fish oil, vitamin E, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and similar products. Alcohol should also be avoided for at least 24 hours prior to treatment.

If you take prescription blood thinners, do not stop them on your own. Always consult with your prescribing physician before making any changes, as this may help reduce bruising but is not appropriate for everyone.

After treatment, it’s best to avoid strenuous exercise, gym workouts, and activities that significantly raise your heart rate for at least 48 hours.

Most patients can return to normal daily activities quickly. Your provider will review personalized pre- and post-treatment instructions to ensure the safest and smoothest recovery possible.

At Bougie Aesthetics®, the risk of nodules with Sculptra® is extremely low.

Our Sculptra® Multipoint Technique places product deep within the facial fat compartments, rather than superficially in the skin. Because of this deep placement, it is very uncommon for patients to feel any nodules. If a small area of firmness were to develop, it would typically be deep and not visible to others.

While nodules are uncommon overall, placement in more superficial tissue planes can make any firmness or irregularity more noticeable, which is why our approach focuses on deeper anatomical placement. Modern dilution techniques have further reduced the likelihood of visible irregularities.

Bougie Aesthetics® also serves as a complications referral clinic, and we routinely evaluate and treat patients who have developed concerns from Sculptra® treatments performed elsewhere. Our team is highly trained in identifying and managing nodularity when it occurs.
